OUR STORY

Celebrating 20 Years of Compassion, Rescue, And Second Chances
Every animal deserves to feel safe, loved, and cared for. For 20 years, that simple belief has been at the heart of Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc.
Founded on November 3, 2006, Four-Legged Friends is a Rochester, New York-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing animals in need, with a special focus on helping homeless, abandoned, and neglected cats and kittens find loving homes.
What began with a small group of compassionate animal lovers, including founding member and former President Karen Koscielski Pullano, has grown into two decades of rescue, kindness, and second chances for animals who might otherwise have been forgotten.

Small Rescue. Big Hearts.❤️
Unlike traditional animal shelters, Four-Legged Friends operates through a network of dedicated volunteers and foster homes. This allows animals to receive individualized attention, medical care, and the love they need while waiting for their forever families.
Some arrive frightened, abandoned, or neglected. Others need extensive veterinary care before they're ready for adoption. Whatever their circumstances, we believe every animal deserves a chance at a better life.
Our work goes beyond rescue and adoption. We are committed to addressing the root causes of animal homelessness through spaying and neutering, education, and helping our community better understand the needs of stray and feral cats.
By encouraging responsible pet ownership and providing guidance to those who want to help, we hope to create a future where fewer animals are left without homes.
Compassionate Leadership, Rooted In Veterinary Care
Since 2018, Four-Legged Friends has been led by President Dr. Kirsten Mueller, a veterinarian and co-owner of Riverside Veterinary Hospital in Scottsville, New York.
With years of experience in veterinary medicine, including emergency and critical care, Dr. Mueller brings invaluable medical knowledge and a deep commitment to animal welfare to the organization.
Her dedication to helping animals extends well beyond her veterinary practice. Under her leadership, Four-Legged Friends continues to provide compassionate care, lifesaving medical treatment, and second chances to animals who need them most.

Powered By Compassion
& Community
Four-Legged Friends is an all-volunteer organization supported by private donations and the generosity of people who share our love for animals.
Behind every rescue is a community of caring individuals — volunteers who open their homes, people who feed and protect stray animals, veterinary professionals who provide lifesaving care, adopters who welcome a new family member, and donors who make it all possible.
Every act of kindness matters. Sometimes, something as simple as one person refusing to give up on an animal can change that animal's entire future.
Twenty Years Of Making A Difference — And We're Not Done Yet!
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2026, we're grateful for every animal we've helped, every family we've brought together, and every person who has supported our mission along the way.
There are still so many animals who need someone to believe in them, and we're committed to continuing this work for years to come.
Because every life matters.
Every act of kindness counts. And every animal deserves a second chance.
